    J’ai beacoup faim.

Literally translated means ” I have much hunger”

But in French unlike in English, hunger and thirst do not emanate from the individual and are treated as things possessed by the individual.

Where in English you might say “I am Hungry” stating that you as a person are hunger in a literal sense.

In French “J’ai faim” = ” I have hunger” insinuates that hunger is something that you or the speaker possesses and not something coming from the individual.

A bit confusing when coming from one language to another, but it helps to emphasize the cultural differences between the two cultures, where they draw the distinction between primary and secondary sensations.
