I&#039;m German and I don&#039;t understand this sentence.

I was swimming the other day and did 15 laps of the pool.
Correct translation: Ich war neulich schwimmen und bin 15 Runden im Pool geschwommen.

There are a hand full of people that helped swimming become a well known sport.
Correct translation: Es gibt eine Hand voll Menschen, die das Schwimmen zu einem bekannten Sport gemacht haben.
or
Es gibt eine Hand voll Menschen, die dazu beigetragen haben, dass Schwimmen zu einem bekannten Sport geworden ist.</description>
