&gt; Gozaimasu is optional, but if you add it to the end of your sentence, it becomes polite.
N/B: Most Japanese are polite. You don&#039;t want to stand out!
Read as: oh-hi-yo! go-zi-e-mas

こんばんは　(konbanwa)
Read as: cone - barn without &#039;r&#039; - wa

In my humble opinion, all &quot;Read as&quot; are... rubbish? You can just Google a site that teaches you to pronounce:
a, i, u, e, o [NOT a, e, i, o, u -- It&#039;s different]

And the rest are self-explanatory! You will get what I mean if you learn to pronounce that 5 letters.
